St. Mary’s Church Opening Concert
In the opening concert, three finalists from the Channel 4 series The Piano will perform: Anisa Ford, Zak Emir, and Mia Odeleye. They will play on the church’s grand piano, and the acoustic of the church will guarantee a truly fabulous musical experience.
Moorlands Cricket Club
Six students from the Lion Academy in Brighouse and three students from Musica Kirklees will take to the stage at this venue, bringing youthful energy and real musical flair. Their programme ranges from the Theme from Pirates of the Caribbean and I Don’t Like Mondays by The Boomtown Rats to a selection of much‑loved classical works. With their participation we cover all levels of soloists from good amateurs to experienced professionals.
Eastthorpe Hall
In this beautifully restored 17th‑century country house, Simeon Walker will present an intimate concert featuring his own music. Simeon Walker, performs three concerts of his unique take on modern post classical music. His music has gathered more than 50 million streams and is often heard on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM. Sit back, relax and connect.
Mirfield Fire Station
The usual place for fire engines will be transformed into a concert hall for the afternoon. Zak Emir has shared his passion for music with audiences across the country. He performs not only out of his love for the piano but also to inspire other young people and show them that classical music is accessible to all. Zak will delight listeners with medleys from well-known classical pieces.
*The parking spaces in front of the Fire Station are strictly reserved for staff and emergency vehicles. Any unauthorised vehicles parked there will be towed.
Trinity Church
Ian Abbott is the much‑loved organist at Trinity Church for 30 years, and a constant musical presence at the heart of the community. Ian will step away from the organ bench to perform on the church’s piano in two concerts. The first one at 13:00 and the last one at 14:15.
St. Aidan’s Church
This venue on Fenton Street (opposite Trinity Church) will host three concerts featuring another finalist from Channel 4’s The Piano. When she performed at Liverpool Street Station — captivating passers‑by and impressing judges Jon Batiste and Mika — they described her as “a powerful human who happens to be 12.” Anisa, now 14, studies at the Royal Academy of Music’s Junior Department in London, continuing to refine her craft with a clear path toward major concert stages.
*Please note that St. Aidan’s Church is not accessible by wheelchair.
Mirfield Library
During the Piano Walk the library becomes an intimate concert setting where Amy Preece and Christine Reeves, perform two concerts performing music by Mozart, Chopin and Grieg. They will also perform Beethoven’s Spring Sonata, with Amy on violin and Christine at the piano, offering a wonderfully warm and expressive highlight to the event. Concerts start at 13:00 and 14:15.
Mirfield Masonic Hall
Tucked away on King Street, the Masonic Hall offers a distinctive and atmospheric setting for performance. Its historic character creates a quiet, reflective space that suits solo piano beautifully. Mia Odeleye, our final finalist from Channel 4’s The Piano, will perform here. Alongside works by Mozart and Schumann, she brings her passion for music by composers of the African diaspora, including Florence Price and Margaret Bonds, adding depth and discovery to her programme.
St. Mary’s Church Closing Concert
For the closing concert, we return to St Mary’s Church for a truly special finale featuring Aidan Mikdad. In July 2023, Aidan received The Queen’s Commendation for Excellence at his graduation from the Royal Academy of Music (University of London), where he completed his Master of Arts in Performance with Distinction. He was also awarded the prestigious Diploma of the Royal Academy of Music (DipRAM) after achieving an exceptional mark of 97/100 in his Final Recital.
Aidan has been a remarkable presence on the international competition stage from a young age, earning numerous honours and establishing himself as one of the most exciting pianists of his generation. We are genuinely proud that he has agreed to perform in Mirfield.
Without taking anything away from our other wonderful soloists, this closing concert by such an acclaimed artist is one we warmly encourage visitors not to miss.
