Venues and times

Our concerts will take place in St Mary’s Church and across seven venues along or near Huddersfield Road in the centre of Mirfield. The soloists and concert times are listed hereunder per venue.

St. Mary’s Church Opening Concert 11:30

In the opening concert, three finalists from the Channel 4 series The Piano will perform: Anisa Ford, Zak Emir, and Mia Odeleye. They will play on the church’s grand piano, and the acoustic of the church will guarantee a truly fabulous musical experience.

Moorlands Cricket Club 13:00 and 15:30

Six students from the Lion Academy in Brighouse and three students from Musica Kirklees will take to the stage at this venue, bringing youthful energy and real musical flair. Their programme ranges from the Theme from Pirates of the Caribbean and I Don’t Like Mondays by The Boomtown Rats to a selection of much‑loved classical works. With their participation we cover all levels of soloists from good amateurs to experienced professionals.

Eastthorpe Hall 13:00, 14:15 and 15:30

In this beautifully restored 17th‑century country house, Simeon Walker will present an intimate concert featuring his own music. Simeon Walker, performs three concerts of his unique take on modern post classical music.  His music has gathered more than 50 million streams and is often heard on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM. Sit back, relax and connect. No more seats available for concert 13:00.

Mirfield Fire Station 13:00 and 14:15

The usual place for fire engines will be transformed into a concert hall for the afternoon. Zak Emir has shared his passion for music with audiences across the country. He performs not only out of his love for the piano but also to inspire other young people and show them that classical music is accessible to all. Zak will delight listeners with medleys from well-known classical pieces.

*The parking spaces in front of the Fire Station are strictly reserved for staff and emergency vehicles. Any unauthorised vehicles parked there will be towed.

Trinity Church 13:00

Ian Abbott is the much‑loved organist at Trinity Church for 30 years, and a constant musical presence at the heart of the community.  Ian will step away from the organ bench to perform on the church’s piano.

St. Aidan’s Church 14:15 and 15:30

This venue on Fenton Street (opposite Trinity Church) will host two concerts featuring another finalist from Channel 4’s The Piano. When she performed at Liverpool Street Station — captivating passers‑by and impressing judges Jon Batiste and Mika — they described her as “a powerful human who happens to be 12.” Anisa, now 14, studies at the Royal Academy of Music’s Junior Department in London, continuing to refine her craft with a clear path toward major concert stages.

*Please note that St. Aidan’s Church is not accessible by wheelchair.

Mirfield Library 13:00 and 14:15

Both concerts are ‘fully booked’.

During the Piano Walk the library becomes an intimate concert setting where Amy Preece and Christine Reeves, perform two concerts performing music by Mozart, Chopin and Grieg. They will also perform Beethoven’s Spring Sonata, with Amy on violin and Christine at the piano, offering a wonderfully warm and expressive highlight to the event.

Mirfield Masonic Hall 14:15 and 15:30

Tucked away on King Street, the Masonic Hall offers a distinctive and atmospheric setting for performance. Its historic character creates a quiet, reflective space that suits solo piano beautifully. Mia Odeleye, our final finalist from Channel 4’s The Piano, will perform here. Alongside works by Mozart and Schumann, she brings her passion for music by composers of the African diaspora, including Florence Price and Margaret Bonds, adding depth and discovery to her programme.

St. Mary’s Church Closing Concert 17:00

For the closing concert, we return to St Mary’s Church for a truly special finale featuring Aidan Mikdad. In July 2023, Aidan received The Queen’s Commendation for Excellence at his graduation from the Royal Academy of Music (University of London), where he completed his Master of Arts in Performance with Distinction. He was also awarded the prestigious Diploma of the Royal Academy of Music (DipRAM) after achieving an exceptional mark of 97/100 in his Final Recital.
Aidan has been a remarkable presence on the international competition stage from a young age, earning numerous honours and establishing himself as one of the most exciting pianists of his generation. We are genuinely proud that he has agreed to perform in Mirfield.
Without taking anything away from our other wonderful soloists, this closing concert by such an acclaimed artist is one we warmly encourage visitors not to miss.

Other relevant information

The walk from St Mary’s Church to the other venues takes around 15–20 minutes via the shortest route. Our route guides will be positioned along the way to help you find your path with ease. There is a 45‑minute pause between the end of the opening concert in St Mary’s Church and the start of the concerts at 13:00 in the other venues, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the walk.

Minibus

Some capacity has become available on the minibus that we are providing to take people to and from the Opening and Closing Concerts at St Mary’s Church, so we are still able to accept online bookings.

It will depart from St. Mary’s Church at 12:30 sharp and will take you to the bus stop near Trinity Church on the Huddersfield Road. From there, it is just a 5‑minute walk to the other venues. This bus is only for people with a reservation.

The minibus will make the return journey, leaving at 16:30 sharp from the bus stop in front of Hansons Opticians on the Huddersfield Road, opposite Mirfield Library.

To help cover costs, we ask for a donation of £2.00 per one‑way trip, payable in cash to the volunteer at the bus stop. Please have your cash payment ready before boarding to help the departure run smoothly.

The weather forecast predicts a 40% chance of rain. If that forecast proves correct, we will run a second trip of the minibus, both in the morning and afternoon if needed. Please note that we cannot guarantee departure or arrival times for the additional trip. Thank you for your understanding.

AccessBus

We have been in contact with the AccessBus team regarding wheelchair users. They can provide a service between 09:00 and 14:00. If you wish to use this service, please call 0113 348 1902 (option 1) and mention the Mirfield Piano Walk.

Parking

St Mary’s Church has limited parking directly in front of the venue. Additional parking is available along Church Lane and on some nearby streets. Unfortunately, there will be no overflow parking available at St Mary’s Church.

The other venues do not provide parking, and the spaces in front of the Fire Station are strictly reserved for staff and emergency vehicles. Any unauthorised vehicles parked there will be towed. Public parking is available at the Station Road car park, located on the left just after you enter the entrance to the Co‑op.

We have been advised that a Fun Fair will occupy the Mirfield Showground from 14–17 May. This will not affect the Walk, but parking may be more difficult during our event.

Refreshments

The following venues will be offering refreshments before and after their concerts: St Mary’s Church, Moorlands Cricket Club, Trinity Methodist Church, and Mirfield Masonic Hall. Eastthorpe Hall will have a welcoming pop‑up coffee stall and Italian ice‑cream trike in front of their premises.

Elsie’s Deli, opposite Trinity Church, will open especially for the event.

At the beginning of the concerts

Please arrive no later than 10 minutes before the start time. We will check your reservation at the entrance, so please bring your confirmation email — either on your phone or as a printout. Ten minutes before each concert begins, we will open the doors to passers‑by, and if the venue becomes full, reserved seats may be released.

To keep the atmosphere calm for both performers and audience, we are unable to admit latecomers once a concert has started, except during a natural pause between pieces and only if the soloist is happy for us to do so.

After the concerts

It’s lovely to share your thoughts with friends and family or to express your appreciation to the soloists. However, our stewards have only a few minutes to prepare the venue for the next audience. We kindly ask that you step outside after the concert to continue your conversations, so we can reset the space smoothly and welcome the next visitors comfortably.

Visitors attending the opening concert who need the minibus into the town centre are kindly asked to make their way to the bus stop at St Mary’s Church as soon as possible. Please have your cash payment of £2.00 ready before boarding to help the departure run smoothly.
