Welcome to the Mirfield Piano Walk, a unique series of free piano concerts.

Experience the harmony of classical piano music and Yorkshire charm at the Mirfield Piano Walk, a unique free, walking, cultural and musical event where live performances transform everyday spaces into concert venues.

On Sunday, 17 May 2026, follow the path of this music trail through Mirfield and discover talented pianists, including finalists of the Channel 4 series ‘The Piano’, playing in a variety of historical buildings and other unexpected locations.

Each venue offers a distinct atmosphere, and every pianist brings their own voice creating an afternoon filled with live piano performances, conversation, and community spirit.

Whether you’re a local resident, a music enthusiast, or simply curious, this West Yorkshire event welcomes everyone. Admission is free—your applause is your ticket.

Inspired by the “Pianowandeling” in Edam, Netherlands

Like its very successful Dutch counterpart, the Mirfield Piano Walk brings music into public spaces, connecting people and turning the ordinary into something unforgettable.

The organizers hope to establish this as an annual celebration of local and international piano talent, inviting audiences to experience classical music for free in new and surprising ways.

Our Mission: Cultural Enrichment | Community Engagement | Talent Development

Cultural Enrichment

We transform locations across Mirfield for this cultural family-friendly event. Churches, shops, the Mirfield fire station, and other unexpected venues will become informal concert halls. By bringing music into the fabric of daily life, we encourage unexpected encounters with culture and foster a wider appreciation for classical music.

Community Engagement

The Mirfield Piano Walk is accessible to all—residents, visitors, seasoned concert goers, and first-time listeners. Performers and audiences connect in informal settings, creating a shared cultural experience rooted in Mirfield.

Talent Development

The Mirfield Piano Walk welcomes a broad spectrum of performers, from talented young amateurs (ABR 6+) to conservatoir-level musicians and professional soloists. To further support emerging talent, we’ve introduced a competition component. For more information, see our competition page.

Venues

A musical journey through Mirfield’s most distinctive spaces. Each venue on the Mirfield Piano Walk has been selected for its atmosphere, acoustics, and contribution to the town’s cultural fabric. Together, they form a walkable concert trail that invites audiences to experience classical piano in unexpected and inspiring settings.

Soloists

We are celebrating talent at every level. The Mirfield Piano Walk brings together a diverse group of pianists—from promising students to emerging professionals—each selected for their musicality, stage presence, and passion for performance.

To ensure a rich and varied programme, we are actively reaching out to:

  • Piano teachers across the region and beyond, inviting students with ABRSM Grade 6 or higher to apply.
  • Conservatoires in Leeds, Manchester and Huddersfield, encouraging participation from graduate-level students and recent alumni.
